French’s Mustard Skittles

Step into the vibrant realm of French's Mustard-flavored Skittles packaging design, where creativity blends seamlessly with tangy innovation. As a designer at McCormick, I had the unique opportunity to collaborate with Skittles on a project that adds an unexpected burst of flavor and color to the candy aisle. The packaging design played a pivotal role in capturing the essence of this fusion between French's iconic mustard and Skittles' candy-coated delight. We'll embark on a visual journey to explore the design elements that transformed mustard into a candy sensation, ensuring it stands out on store shelves. Research

Collaborating with two iconic brands demanded a thoughtful approach, so I kicked off this exciting project with thorough research. My first step involved a detailed visual audit of Skittles' packaging, specifically focusing on limited-time offerings that allowed for creative experimentation. This audit was pivotal in establishing the right visual hierarchy, ensuring that limited edition and "mustard" were clearly defined. Given the unique twist of mustard-flavored Skittles, it made perfect sense to maintain the existing Skittles design architecture and incorporate the French's bottle as a strong endorsement, emphasizing the co-branded nature of the product. As the finishing touches, I transformed the Skittles (or "lentils") into vibrant yellow hues and the pouch background into the iconic French's yellow. This project was a delightful exercise in harmonizing two iconic brand designs, resulting in a dynamic and memorable final design that truly leaves its mark.
